“Surround Sound” is one of the first generational Show Choirs at a collegiate level. For those that are unfamiliar with the term “Show Choir”, just imagine the show Glee. Show Choir can be be described as: “A Show Choir is a group of people who combine choral singing with dance, sometimes within the context of a specific idea or story.” Although the Show Choir community is predominantly High School students, Surround Sound aims to bring the popular midwest extra curricular to the collegiate level. Although most of our performances will be strictly exhibition, plans have been put into action to create the first ever Show Choir competition at a collegiate level later in 2019.

A set list consists of 4-5 songs that are performed in a specific order:

A show traditionally starts with an opener to gain the audience's attention in a quick fashion. Songs are usually energetic and make an impact on the audience almost immediately.

The novelty number is intended to offer a different dynamic to the show. Typically partner work or showcasing different styles of dance.

The ballad intends to slow the pace of the show down as the only purley singing number in the show. The ballad rarely has choreographed dance in order for the group to demonstrate their impressive choral sound.

After the ballad, the pace of the show picks back up in the 4th number, commonly referred to as the guy/girl number. This song is usually split into 2 different songs; one in which the guys are solely on stage, and one where the girls are the only ones on stage. This allows the non-performing group of performers to have a costume change. Groups have also favored subbing out the guy/girl number with a quartet or trio.
