Termites are wood destroying organisms that attack one of your biggest investments, your home! There are many sub species of Termites, in southern Utah we primarily deal with Subterranean Termites and Dry Wood Termites. Below you will find information for each type, followed by a detailed description and breakdown on how treatments are made, and equipment used for these services. Each home is different and services and costs are adjusted accordingly.
Subterranean Termites
Subterranean Termites are exactly how the name sounds, the live in the ground and very rarely make themselves present in our atmosphere. They regulate temperature and humidity by remaining in tunnels, mud tubes, and chambers. Subterranean termites are excellent in finding sound dead wood to feed on. Their colonies can have a population of up to and occasionally above 2 million before splitting colonies and re-infesting new areas. Colonies can also merge, coexisting together forming what we call super colonies. Some of the best prevention for these termites are during construction stages. Right before a foundation is poured, We apply a long lasting systemic product in two stages. This forms a barrier that has been scientifically proven to be effective for up to 30 years. For more information about pre-construction treatments, see the tab above.
Detection of these Termites can be difficult, in most cases Subterranean Termites will be drawn to excessive water, occasionally you will find them in areas after rain, with wings still in tact. The termites in this state are looking for a new place to establish, either with a new queen aside them, or one to be elected in a short time. They will then break off their wings, and begin a new colony near a food source. We provide affordable termite inspection that are very thorough and efficient. Signs of Subterranean Termites are typically small piles of a fine sand looking substance, or small dirt/mud tubes.
Dry Wood Termites
Dry wood Termites are similar to Subterranean Termites in their appearance, but their are many differences separating the two. For instance Dry wood Termites will live in the wood they are feeding on, and their colonies are typically in the range of 2-3 thousand in a developed colony. This is not always the case, some colonies of dry wood Termites can exceed these numbers but its not as common. Dry wood Termites are destructive, but are very easily treated with localized products. A dry wood Termite treatment is typically much less invasive than a Subterranean Termite treatment.
Treatment process
Subterranean Termite treatments are essentially a vertical barrier formed around your home downward into the soil. This is done 4-6 inches away from the foundation and achieved by either drilling through concrete with a professional hammer drill, or forming a trench and injection points into areas that are soil or soft landscape that does not require drilling.
Dry wood Termite treatments are different and are much quicker and efficient. Using a hand drill, bait products, and foaming products we are able to localize the spray to where they are discovered. Typically dry wood Termites will live very close to where they are discovered, making control much quicker.Â
