Wilderness & Remote First Aid offers you the skills and knowledge to handle emergencies when professional help is not readily available. These times include recreation, work, and travel through remote areas, like highways, planes, boating, or camping. We often choose to be in these environments because they offer great opportunities to learn, for class or for personal growth, or because they are part of our occupation, and with that choice comes risk. Then there are also times when we become instantly remote because EMS can't travel to us, like storms, earthquakes, and tornadoes and we will have to keep ourselves and others safe. This course helps prepare you to keep little issues little and big issues manageable.

In order for you to receive the full benefits from the field experience, you need to know what to expect and what to prepare for these activities.
You will need to wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, since we will be doing some scenarios outdoors. You should be prepared for all weather conditions because portions of the course will be conducted outdoors. Please also be aware that we will be using moulage/ fake blood, etc., and that this may get on your clothes. You will also be getting wet, so secondary sets of clothes are required.
Be prepared to play the role of the patient and/or the rescuer in scenarios. Everyone should have plenty of opportunities to play both roles. As a patient, you may have the “rescuers” simulating rescue techniques such as a physical exam and emergency moves on you. As the rescuer, you will be required to make decisions based on a set of symptoms exhibited by the “patient.” You may also have the opportunity to play the role of the Leader, who makes decisions concerning the whole scene. This role-playing is important to the course in that it pulls all the information together and teaches the emergency action steps in a more realistic setting.
There will be skill practices that you must pass proficiently, (For EMS there may be up to 15hrs of CE for successful completion of the course.)
