About Gaya (AD 42–532)
(0) Gaya (가야): Gaya was a Korean confederacy of 6 territorial polities in the Nakdong River basin of southern Korea, growing out of the Byeonhan confederacy of the Samhan period. Geumgwan Gaya (금관가야) was the ruling state of the confederacy.
(1) King Kim Suro (수로왕): The founder of Gaya. The Kim surname has several branches, and among them, King Kim Su-ro is the founder of the Gimhae Kim clan, which has approximately 4 million members.
(2) Gujibong (구지봉, 龜旨峰): According to the Samguk Yusa (Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms), King Suro is said to have descended to Gujibong in the year 42 AD. The name "Gujibong" comes from the mountain's shape, which resembled a turtle.
"구(龜)" means turtle, "봉(峰)" means a peak of mountain.
(3) Gujiga (구지가, 龜旨歌): When King Suro descended, the village chief and the people of the area gathered there, singing the Gujiga (a traditional song) and dancing. As they did so, a golden box descended from the sky. Inside the box were six eggs, and the people born from these eggs became the rulers of the six Gaya states. The first to be born was King Suro, who became the founder of Geumgwan Gaya.
"가(歌)" means song.
