Most of our updates will come through email updates. Please check your email frequently, especially as we draw closer to our first date!
The WPI Merit Badge University (MBU) is a two day course over two weekend where scouts have the opportunity to learn new skills and earn exciting Merit Badges. As this MBU is held on the WPI campus, we have access to many resources that enable us to offer cool and exciting STEM related badges. The scouts are also introduced to our college campus and top-of-the-line labs and facilities here at WPI. This MBU is organized and run by student volunteers of WPI's Alpha Phi Omega chapter.
Lunch will be cheese pizza, fruit, and cookies. If your child dislikes this or has an allergy, please provide a lunch for them. The lunch should be peanut and treenut free.
Registration will be done through eventbrite. You can access it here. Registration will open September 15 at 10 am. Each ticket will cost $60. Refunds excluding the eventbrite's fee up to 14 days before the event.

Alpha Phi Omega is an international co-ed service fraternity with active chapters on over 300 college campuses worldwide. The fraternity was founded in 1925 by Scouts who believed the ideals of scouting can make the world a better place. What started as an organization of men with scouting ties has since expanded to accept any college student willing to promote Alpha Phi Omega's mission and values.
Our chapter of APO, Omicron Iota, was founded in 1964 and has always had close ties with the local Scouts. We frequently volunteer to do service projects at local scout camps, such as Camp Resolute and Treasure Valley, and have been organizing MBU for many years.
MBU runs on a Saturday from 9-5. Scouts will attend 3, 2 hour long, classes with a pizza lunch break.
If you require scholarship to attend our MBU, please reach out to mbu@wpi.edu BEFORE registration. We will do our best to figure out a solution, but we can only help if you reach out before registration begins.
We are using a new payment method through our school's software. The only way to pay is using a credit card. We no longer accept cash, Venmo, or check.
Please join our mailing list here! As college students, we generally start working on each year's MBU during the summer. Don't be worried if you haven't heard from us in a little while!
Of course! Scouts from any council are welcome, no matter how far away you are. Everyone registers the same way, so the only difference is how you might receive your blue cards. (Some councils accept electronic blue cards while some only accept traditional paper ones).
Yes. No badges are single day badges. Scouts MUST attend both days in order to receive credit. Please do not register unless you can attend both days.
We will send out badge information by mid-October. We will do our best to provide scouts with badges they want, but we cannot guarantee that everyone will get their exact choice.
Unfortunately, we can't switch badges if you receive one that isn't in your top choice. The only way to change your badge is if we place you in a class that you already have the badge for.
Reach out to mbu@wpi.edu. Remember that we are all student volunteers, and will respond as soon as we can.
We always appreciate any help from parents, scouts, or troop leaders to assist teaching and sitting in on badges. If you'd like to assist, please email at mbu@wpi.edu with your name, troop number, council, and a copy of your Youth Protection Certification (YPT) available at my.scouting.org as well as the badge(s) you would be interested in assisting with.
Please look at the tab titled "homework" and find your class. The homework will be listed here.
Yes, you can fill out our registration fom through eventbrite. If registration is full, you will be added to eventbrite and emailed if a space opens.
Unfortunately costs to host MBU have increased over the last five years. Facility, police, and supply costs have increased, so we've had to increase registration costs to be able to continue hosting the event.
