WES R3

Want to be a part of a team? Want to run around with your friends? Want to exercise while having fun?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to become a member of the Rockinʼ Recess Runners R3 Cross Country Team! Our primary goal is to have fun while running together as a group. Over 500 WES students participated in 2025, and we expect the 2026 program will be even bigger! This is our 14th year at WES.  All ages K-5 and all abilities are welcome.

Who is R3?  

Any WES student K-5 interested in running 3 days a week (M,W,F) in a structured program during outdoor lunch recess with parent volunteers. Coaches are Brittany Troast and Dominique Parsons along with various volunteers.

What is R3?

R3 members gather during lunch recess to run a specific ¼ mile course on the playground.  We scan their bracelets for each lap the kids run/walk.  Toe tokens are awarded for different mileage goals. We host an optional meet at the flats by Thomas Worthington High School on Wednesday, September 16. Other elementary schools offer additional meets you can attend.  A list of meets will be on our website (https://sites.google.com/view/worthingtonestatesxc/race-schedule) as soon as they are scheduled.  We also have a Facebook page with information:  Worthington Estates Cross Country R3.

Why?  

Running is cool, good for your health and your body. This will be a foundation for future athletics.

Where?

On the playground during recess beginning at the beginning of September through late October. Meet behind the swings, near the primary baseball diamond.  Look for the R3 flag.  Each runner must check in AND check out with parent volunteers at the beginning and end of each session.

SHIRTS:  Shirts are totally optional. We are using the same design as previous years – red and gray. If you don’t have one or you’d like to buy the next size up or buy an adult size, go to https://www.bluemarlingraphics.com/wesxc.htm Deadline is August 26 to order shirts. Sizes for kids and adults in various fabrics.

CAR MAGNETS:  You can purchase a snazzy magnet for your car, fridge, wherever by completing the form HERE.  Details regarding cost and payment can also be found on the Magnet Ordering Form.  

Donation:

R3 is free to participate in!  We couldn’t continue this program without the continued support of our amazing parent volunteers and generous parent donations.  We are not financially supported by the school or PTA and rely solely on donations to keep this program going. (Donations pay for awards, EZ Scan software, course paint, cups, printer ink, etc.)
