Ashleigh Crystal Hairston is an actor, writer and improviser from Seattle, WA! She received a BA in Acting from Howard University in Washington DC and now resides in Los Angeles where she performs regularly at The UCB Theatre. She has appeared in 13 national commercials and has traveled to Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, Hawaii and Brisbane, Australia to perform and teach improv comedy. Ashleigh is the voice of “Bask” in Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest (Disney XD) which was a 2x NAACP Image Award nominee, and is the voice of the wild eyed kid scientist "Wren" in Cartoon Network's hit show Craig of the Creek where she is also currently a Staff Writer. Craig of the Creek is nominated for a 2020 Daytime Emmy Award! Her recent TV credits include The Neighborhood (CBS), Indebted (NBC), and Astronomy Club (Netflix).
Have you ever had a role in a movie apart from (voicing)?
Yes. In 2019 I was in a film called Babysplitters, directed by Sam Friedlander and starring Danny Pudi, Emily Chang, Edie Alfano and Maiara Walsh that did really well in the festival circuit. It won Best Comedy at the San Diego International Film Festival.
What is your all time favourite movie you have voiced?

I haven't done any voiceover work for movies yet, but my favorite character to voice on television would be... a tie between my character "Wren" on Craig of the Creek and "Bask" on Avengers Assemble: Black Panther's Quest. I relate so much to "Wren" because she's so passionate and animated. She's bursting with energy and she loves experimenting and trying out new scientific hypothesis' -- and she loves when she gets them right! I love my character "Bask" because I mean, c'mon. She's the Queen of Wakanda. I got to do an accent I didn't even know I had in me! Not to mention Black Panther was the highest-grossing film by a black director in history, and became the 9th highest-grossing film of all time. The fact that I am a part of the Black Panther franchise in any shape or form is incredible and still blows my mind to this day!

Do you ever get nervous on set?
Sometimes! I think the nerves will always be there because I always want to do a good job and make smart, interesting choices. But mostly when I get to set, I'm just excited and anxious to get started! I LOVE being on set-- there's so much going on, and there are so many people all working together in hopes of creating something beautiful and memorable. It's so fun to be a part of an orchestra like that! Sometimes it can be nerve wracking to meet the higher-ups, or perform in front of the writers because their job is to find things that aren't working, but for me at least I've been performing in front of live crowds for so long now that I'm comfortable making mistakes work to my advantage! So if you drop or line or something, you gotta be able to sell that mistake as if it was meant to happen-- or get good at cleaning it up really quickly.
