Why Ares?
Well to be fair and honest I always liked the goddess Hera and that was what came to the top of my mind choosing a tag. But of course there was already street artist going by that name and to make matters worse - she is insanely good. That was a no-go! Thank you Internet for saving me that embarrassment!
In graffiti and street art the terminology is very close to that of actual conflict. And though the graffiti-wars of the late 1900-s are over and the absolute majority of graffiti writers and street artists are super friendly (I would say more friendly than your average Joe), the terminology still stands. So I thought: why not the God of War - Mars? No, that's a candy bar. Ares?!
Naturally I wasn't the first one to think of that either! This time it was worse, the street artist Ares had been located in the same city as I was - Gothenburg, Sweden. But I got to know he had changed his tag a few years back from when I picked up the cans and to this day I hope he wasn't too offended, and thus AresII (Ares Two) was created
Behind Ares
Born in -89 I've managed to dodge every chance of getting an Art Degree with great success. Books, the Internet and artistic people around me has inspired me to get to learn the craft on my own.
I was sprung into this world in Tornedalen, Sweden. That's just south of the Arctic Circle so I grew up with endless summer days when the sun never set and the birds never stop singing. Therefore I also got to live equally endless winter nights when the only sun you get is a single ray of gold radiating from somewhere behind the horizon and the brightest source of light is the moon!
I've always been close to nature, wherever I've lived and wherever I've visited. Nature and wildlife are my two greatest sources of inspiration and I want to make my fellow humans happy with my paintings. When I cook it down it's really that simple. If I can bring one person to start painting or trying out any other form of art - that's great. If someone has a lousy day and one of my paintings can brighten their day even only for a few minutes - that's even better.
Kids and the elderly are the best art critics because they are the most honest.
Behind all that
I really am that weird person who you can spot having a conversation with a bird or complimenting a leaf on a tree with no other human around. Brutalism is my favorite type of architecture because raw concrete is the best canvas.
If you want to know more about my thoughts and reflections behind any of my works of art (see FOR SALE) just send me an email and I will get back to you :) "It's not just a bird" and anyone who have met me at my exhibitions knows what I mean when I say that.
I'm not curated by any art gallery since I've moved to Västernorrland, Sweden. I don't have a degree from an art school and my annual income from art sales doesn't cut official requirements to be entitled "Artist" in Sweden. Therefore I say I'm a painter. I paint on everything from canvas to glass to wood to concrete to.... I just paint.
