World War I

Escape Room

The Selective Service Act was passed when the United States entered World War I. At the time, there were only 110,000 servicemen who could be deployed to fight in the war. The United States called for volunteers but only 73,000 volunteers enlisted. The original goal was to get one million volunteers in six weeks. A new law was created to enlist men to fight called: "An Act to authorize the President to increase temporarily the Military Establishment of the United States President Woodrow Wilson would create a national lottery to randomly determine which men would be drafted. Every man drafted would receive a draft card issued by the United States government with a unique four digit identification code. Jared Orren was one of the men drafted. He was patriotic and proud to head off to Europe to help defend the United States. Deployment day arrived and Jared was required to show his draft card. Without the card and the 4 digit code, Jared would not be allowed to leave the country. The National Guard has stopped Jared from entering the draft area for new soldiers. Jared was devastated. He dreamed of defending his country like his father and grandfather had done. He had just turned 18 and was not in college. He knew his country needed his service. The Selective Service said the only way they could allow Jared to be deployed without his official draft card was if he could provide his four digit identification code. Your job is to find the 4 digit code to allow Jared to support his country.
