A  Medical Transport Plane With Six Passengers On Board Crashed Northeast Of Philadelphia.

A twin-engine medical evacuation plane carrying a child and his mother crashed in a neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday night, causing an explosion, according to authorities and video from the scene.

A Learjet 55 with six people on board crashed after taking off from a Northeast Philadelphia airport, the Federal Aviation Administration told CNN.

The child and his mother were on board and were returning home to Mexico after the child received treatment in Philadelphia, said Shai Gold, a spokesman for flight operator Jet Rescue Air Ambulance.

The FAA said the downed Learjet was headed to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. Gold told CNN the flight was scheduled to make a refueling stop at the Springfield airport before continuing on to its final destination of Tijuana, Mexico.

There were also four crew members on board — a pilot, co-pilot, paramedic and doctor, Gold said. All six people on board were Mexican nationals, according to Mexico's Foreign Ministry.

"We cannot confirm any survivors at this time," the air ambulance company said earlier Friday.

The plane took off just after 6 p.m. ET and reached an altitude of 1,650 feet before crashing, according to ADS-B Exchange data. The data shows the final descent rate was 11,000 feet per minute.
