Newsom’s listening tour stops in Stockton amid protests and calls for action

Gov. Gavin Newsom met on Thursday with Mayor Michael Tubbs of Stockton and the black community leaders of Central Valley, which continued a hearing tour of state cities with more Californians calling for police brutality actions and responsibilities.

Yet the Governor 's response became evident when discussing what improvements he plans to bring as the head of state: There would be no simple remedies.

"I am afraid we will transfer measures and believe that we have fixed issues," says Newsom last week, dismissing the notion of the state capital's top-down strategy.

The Governor reiterated in Los Angeles and Sacramento that the country needs a large cultural change and dedication to equity amongst civic organizations, non-profit, businessmen, government and private individuals.

Melina Abdullah, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter in Los Angeles, said that the governor can do more on his own, as Newsom called for reforms rooted in community action.

Abdullah said, "He will contribute to substantial change. "Naturally, he can not change the world by himself, of course, but he can create some. He should say a number things he didn't do.

Newsom publicly supported the Assembly woman's proposal to study the effects of slavery and consider possible reparations during the visit to Stockton, Shirley Weber (d- San Diego). The proposal was stressed as a priority for the Black Caucus of California and its remarks on Thursday marked its first endorsement.

"I backed it for a long time," said Newsom on Thursday, adding that developments of recent times have increased his resolve to pursue the proposal so that the structural reform can be fulfilled with a pledge.
