12月3日は「世界ニホンザルの日」です！
Celebrate World Japanese Macaque Day on December 3!
1948年12月3日、宮崎県の幸島で、京都大学の今西錦司らが初めてサルの調査をおこないました。これにちなみ、12月3日を「世界ニホンザルの日」とします。
ニホンザルは、ヒトを除く霊長類の中でもっとも北に生息し、霊長類の多様性を象徴する動物です。今西錦司らが創始したニホンザルの研究は、その生態や社会の解明から医学研究への応用にいたるまで、霊長類学を発展させ多くの知見をもたらしてきました。いっぽう、絶滅が心配される地域もあれば、ヒトとの軋轢が生じている地域もあり、ヒトと野生動物の共存について考えさせてくれる存在でもあります。
「世界ニホンザルの日」を、このようなニホンザルの魅力を知り、関心を高め、保全や福祉について考える日にしましょう。
On 3rd of December, we celebrate this amazing species and raise awareness about their welfare in captivity and conservation in the wild.
3rd of December 1948 is the day Kinji Imanishi of Kyoto University and his students first visited Koshima Island to study wild Japanese macaques. It was the beginning of primatology in Japan. Imanishi is a pioneer in primatology, and the founder of the Japan Monkey Centre.
Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata), also known as snow monkeys, are living in the northern limit for the distribution of any species of nonhuman primates. They are iconic species in Japan and brought us better understanding of ourselves through ecological, social, and medical studies. In some regions, they are threatened to disappear, while in other regions, conflict between humans and macaques arises. They are important beings that makes us think how we can live in harmony with wildlife.

世界ニホンザルの日への参加のしかた
Join us to celebrate World Japanese Macaque Day!
12月3日を中心に12月中にニホンザルに関するさまざまな情報を発信しましょう。ニホンザルの魅力を伝え、人々の関心を高めるとともに、野生ニホンザルの適切な保全（保護管理）や飼育下ニホンザルの福祉向上、あるいは学術研究の推進に関することなど、どんな内容でも構いません。SNS、オンラインイベント、動物園での展示や催しなど、さまざまな方法で参加できます。イベントなどの情報はこのページに掲載しますので、下のフォームから情報をお寄せください。
Spread the word about Japanese macaques. We will continue celebration for whole December. Tell the world how special they are. Raise awareness on their welfare in captivity, conservation in the wild, or scientific research through SNSs, online events, and activities at zoos, organizations, etc. We would like to share your plan on this web site.

「世界ニホンザルの日」の普及啓発のためのポスターを作成しました。2023年のポスターは、小豆島の銚子渓 自然動物園 お猿の国の写真をお借りして作成しました。以下の画像をクリックすると、印刷用のPDFファイルをダウンロードすることができます。
動物園、学校、研究施設、その他どんな場所でも構いません。プリントアウトして、できるだけ多くの人の目に止まる場所への掲示にご協力ください。動物園などの公共の場に掲示されたら、「イベント情報の送付はこちら」から、掲出情報やそのようすを撮った写真などをお寄せください。
