The University of Oxford tops the ranking for the eighth year in a row, but others in the top five have seen shifts in their ranks. Stanford University moves up to second place, pushing Harvard University down to fourth.

World Athletics has undertaken to create a global ranking system where athletes score points based on a combination of result and place depending on the level of the competition in which the result is achieved. The ranking is then based on their average score over a certain number of competitions in a defined period of time.

The basis for the ranking method has been developed with Elite Ltd (All-Athletics) whose founder, Dr Bojidar Spiriev, developed a first set of rankings already back in 1979. The calculation mechanism, as well as the different categories of competitions and the placing scores awarded for each category, can be found under the tab World Ranking Rules.

In any calendar year, World Athletics processes more than 1,000,000 results from more than 10,000 competitions worldwide which feed into the world rankings. Globally, this means that in any given week there are more than 70,000 athletes, ranging from elite to club level from all four corners of the world, who have a valid ranking score across the 46 athletics event groups. As we develop tools and processes to further expand the reach of our statistical service, these figures are destined to grow steadily and consistently.

Because of their nature, the world rankings can also be used as a tool to compare multiple performances across a range of competitions. By applying standardised compilation methods, it is therefore possible to evaluate the comparative quality of the participating fields at competitions of the same type and to produce competition performance rankings. These are available in the specific tab where there is also a link to the ranking rules which apply.

THE (Times Higher Education) has been providing trusted performance data on universities for students and their families, academics, university leaders, governments and industry, since 2004. We create university rankings to assess university performance on the global stage and to provide a resource for readers to understand the different missions and successes of higher education institutions.

We also draw on the rich database behind the World University Rankings to publish a series of regional and thematic rankings, offering deeper insights into a wider range of universities against a wider range of missions. These include: Arab University Rankings, Asia University Rankings, Latin America University Rankings, World Reputation Rankings and Young University Rankings.

Our teaching rankings were developed to offer a different assessment of excellence in higher education, and to enable us to rank institutions that are often not research-focused enough to be eligible for the World University Rankings. We launched our first teaching ranking in 2016. These rankings are geographically focused because the data associated with teaching, and the issues related to it, tend to be much more local than global in nature. We publish one teaching ranking: the Japan University Rankings. These rankings put student engagement and student success at their heart.

Our Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings combine aspects of our impact, research and teaching rankings to explore how universities in Africa can deliver on the challenges of the UN SDGs and Agenda 2063.

The University of Oxford tops the ranking for the seventh consecutive year. Harvard University remains in second place, but the University of Cambridge jumps from joint fifth last year to joint third.

Based on a mixture of hard data and survey replies from business and government executives, the digital rankings help governments and companies to understand where to focus their resources and what might be best practices when embarking on digital transformation.

The IMD World Digital Competitiveness (WDC) ranking analyzes and ranks the extent to which countries adopt and explore digital technologies leading to transformation in government practices, business models and society in general.

As in the case of the IMD World Competitiveness ranking, we assume that digital transformation takes place primarily at enterprise level (whether private or state-owned) but it also occurs at the government and society levels.

Criteria can be hard data, which analyze digital competitiveness as it can be measured (e.g. Internet bandwidth speed) or soft data, which analyze competitiveness as it can be perceived (e.g. Agility of companies). Hard criteria represent a weight of 2/3 in the overall ranking whereas the survey data represent a weight of 1/3.

The CPI is the most widely used global corruption ranking in the world. But how is it calculated? What kinds of corruption does it cover? And why are certain countries not included? Watch this short explainer video, or dive straight into the most frequently asked questions.

The EVOO World Ranking is a non-profit ranking, which has been created to promote the world's most awarded EVOO's and flavored OO-based products worldwide to consumers. It rewards EVOO'S and flavored OO-based products ones, who have participated in the world in any of the contests held during the year considered EVOOWR. Classifications of books or magazines that are not International Competitions are not included. Every year the list of competitions that will be taken into account is published.

The competitions are classified by continent and country, where the Mario Solinas from COI, is the most important. Also rotated by continent (or sub area of the world) and number of samples and participating countries.

This allows us to know which EVOOs are the most awarded in the world, also the societies, the best by variety or type, and what area of the world they are from. Five years ago this World Ranking was published to communicate to the consumer the quality of THE MOST AWARDED EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS IN THE WORLD, but it was made more than ten years ago based on the ranking system WRW & S (World Ranking Wine & Spirit) created in the year 1997 by the WAWWJ (World Association of Journalists of Wine and the Spirit).

NOTE:

Effective February 1, 2023, the Coronavirus Tracker has switched from LIVE to Daily Updates

As a number of major countries have now transitioned to weekly updates, there is no need anymore for immediate updates throughout the day as soon as a new report is released. On January 29, 2020, Worldometer started tracking the coronavirus, providing the most timely and accurate global statistics to all users and institutions around the world at a time when this was extremely challenging. We thank everyone who participated in this extraordinary collaborative effort.

The IIHF World Ranking is a ranking of the performance of the national ice hockey teams of member countries of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is based on a formula giving points for each team's placings at IIHF-sanctioned tournaments over the previous four years. The ranking is used to determine seedings and qualification requirements for future IIHF tournaments. The current leader in rankings is Canada in both men's and women's play.

The world ranking is based on the final positions of the last four Men's or Women's IIHF World Championships and last Olympic ice hockey tournament. Points are assigned according to a team's final placement in the World Championship or the Olympic tournament. The world champion receives 1600 points and then a 20-point interval is used between teams. However, a 40-point interval is used between gold and silver, silver and bronze, fourth and fifth, and eighth and ninth. This is used as a bonus for the teams who reach the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, the final and for winning the gold medal.[1] Prior to 2023, the world champion received 1200 points, with other teams receiving the same point interval decreases.

Points awarded in the current year are valued at the full amount. Points award in the prior years decline linearly by 25% until the fifth year when they are dropped from the calculation. Under this formula, any year with a World Championship and an Olympics will be counted twice in the tables[a], for a maximum ranking (gold medal in all five events) of: 5600 points at the completion of an Olympic year, 5200 points at the completion of the following year, 4800 points the next year, and 4400 points in the year before the next Olympics. For example, if after the 2026 Championship a team had won the gold medal in the last four championships and the last Olympic tournament, their score would be 5600:[b]

Russia and Belarus were expelled from competing in the 2022 and 2023 World Championships because of their invasion of Ukraine. They were, however, granted the points of the positions they would have been seeded based on their 2021 ranking: in 2022, Russia in third place received 1120 points, and Belarus in 14th place received 860 points. Several nations withdrew from the 2022 World Championships over COVID-19 concerns. These nations similarly received the points of the positions they would have been seeded within their respective tournaments: Australia as second place in IIA received 560 points, New Zealand as third place in IIB received 440 points, North Korea as first place in IIIA received 360 points, Hong Kong as second place in IIIB received 220 points, and the Philippines as fourth place in IV received 100 points. Rich in resources and strategically located, this former Portuguese colony has often posted average GDP growth rates of more than 7% in the past decade. Yet it remains mired among the ten poorest countries in the world. Attacks by Islamic insurgent groups since 2017 have plagued the gas-rich northern part of the country. Still, according to the IMF and its sister institution, the World Bank, the medium-term economic outlook for Mozambique is positive, with growth expected to accelerate to 5% this year and 8% the next. 2351a5e196
