Earth is split up into a number of timezones. Most timezones are exactly one hour apart, and by convention compute their local time as an offset from UTC or GMT. In many locations, these offsets vary twice yearly due to DST transitions.

I think a GREAT feature would be to add the ability to have a location column talk to a world clock column. That way if you set the location as Los Angeles, CA, the world clock would automatically convert to PST/PDT. I think an update like this would be invaluable for all teams who use Monday to store client contacts.

The World Clock (German: Weltzeituhr), also known as the Urania World Clock (German: Urania-Weltzeituhr), is a large turret-style world clock located in the public square of Alexanderplatz in Mitte, Berlin. By reading the markings on its metal rotunda, the current time in 148 major cities from around the world can be determined.[1] Since its erection in 1969, it has become a tourist attraction and meeting place. In July 2015, the German government declared the clock as a historically and culturally significant monument.[2]

The sixteen ton world clock was opened to the public on 30 September 1969, shortly before the twentieth anniversary of the German Democratic Republic, along with the Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm). The erection of the clock was part of a larger plan to expand and reorganize Alexanderplatz as a whole. At the end of the renovations, the public square was four times larger than it was at the end of the World War II.

The clock was designed by the designer Erich John, who at the time was an employee of the planning group for the transformation of Alexanderplatz under the direction of Walter Womacka. Before designing the clock and managing its construction, John was a lecturer at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weiensee (then called the Hochschule fr bildende und angewandte Kunst, "College of Fine and Applied Arts"), where he taught product design. The idea to erect a clock in Alexanderplatz was had when the wreckage of the Uraniasule (a.k.a. The construction of the clock required more than 120 engineers and other experts, including the sculptor Hans-Joachim Kunsch; the Getriebefabrik Coswig company was also instrumental in its construction.[4] In Germany at the time, there was no widely recognized design award, so John did not receive one for his work. However, he received a design award for a different design of his in 1982.

The main feature of the World Clock is a large twenty-four sided column (the cross-section of which is a regular icositetragon). Each side of the column represents one of the twenty-four main time zones of the Earth, and has the names of major cities which use that time zone engraved into it. A windrose is painted onto the pavement below the column which holds up the clock. Four smaller analog clocks are located on the sides of the narrow column which holds up the rotunda, and the entire clock is more than large enough for people to stand under it and read the smaller clocks.

Cities in time zones which are not exact hours offset from UTC, such as New Delhi which is situated in the Indian Standard Time (IST) zone (UTC+05:30), have their offset in minutes engraved next to them. For New Delhi, the engraving is "NEW DELHI +30`".

What Nick said. You are going to be writing plenty of lambda if you are doing display anyhow, so you could use lambda in a sensor to retrieve the +/- of the time zones you want to display, the simply apply the difference from UTC when you print to the display.

Generally speaking timezones is not something you want to calculate yourself.

The code you posted will suffer from the issue I posted (I understand your code is just an example).

27th of march all clocks shifted to summer time in UK. US did it two weeks prior. And the same at the autumn where UK October 30, but November 6 in US goes to winter time.

I bought the first phone back in my home country so when I moved abroad it automatically set the roaming/dual clock to appear on my lock screen display, which I found super useful. But now that I've started setting this phone up in what's technically my "roaming" timezone it perceives that as my "home" timezone no matter what I do!

I've tried the Settings > Lock screen and security > Information and FaceWidgets > Roaming Clock route and used that to set up my home timezone but when I lock my phone it still only shows me my current timezone! I don't use Always On Display but that did give me the option for a dual/world clock and there was no way for me to switch my "home" country. Tried enabling that anyway, but still no dual clock on my home screen.

I have Samsung Galaxy J 7 Pro, in that i had set the home time and local time also and it was working nicely but suddenly the local time only on screen. But roaming clock is still turn on. How to rectify this problem? i need both local and home time on my screen. please anyone help me.

Have you ever wondered how the world clock works to keep everyone in sync? We live in different time zones, but from New York to Melbourne, a second is always a second. That's because everyone sets their local clocks using an internationally agreed standard called Coordinated Universal Time, also known as UTC.

UTC is defined by an agency of the United Nations called the International Telecommunication Union. It's based on two measurements: the ticking of hundreds of ultra-stable atomic clocks (International Atomic Time) and the rotation of the Earth (Universal Time). Nations across the world set their local time by adding or subtracting from UTC depending on their position on the globe.
