Resiliency strategies and their impact on the brain. Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART)

  • Plate overflowing? Stress and anxiety continuing to grow? Family and personal life taking a back seat? Twenty years of research by Dr. Amit Sood of Rochester, MN has shown that a few simple and quick practices can positively decrease your stress and increase your resiliency.
  • Resilience, which is the core strength you use to lift the load of life, depends on how well you are using your brain. SMART explains how the brain creates excessive stress and provides practices to change our brain.
  • SMART is scientifically proven to decrease symptoms of stress and anxiety, and increase well-being, resilience, mindfulness, happiness, and positive health behaviors. Practices take a 10 minutes– sprinkled in 2-minute chunks throughout the day.

Mindfulness: Helping Young People with Emotional Regulation and Focus

  • Discuss how mindfulness can help reduce stress and increase coping skills
  • Present research on how mindfulness helps students
  • Teach a sample lesson from the Mindful Schools curriculum
  • Teach short and simple mindfulness practices that you can use in your classroom immediately with students
  • Do a Make and Take mindfulness activity
