What is the difference between the Google Workspace Annual Plan and the Flexible Plan?

For many years there was only one type of billing plan available for Google Workspace, this was essentially the Flexible Plan. Each month Google would check how many users were in your account and you would be billed for them. The number of users could change month-to-month and your bill would be adjusted accordingly.

Beginning March 14th, 2023, a new Annual Plan is now available. The Annual Plan gives you a discount on every user within the account, but you are committing to remaining a Google Workspace customer for one year. You don't pay up front for an entire year, you are still billed monthly. But you are committing to remain a Google Workspace customer (including all of your users with your account) for a one year period. For companies with a stable or growing workforce, this makes sense and saves money. Keep in mind, even a Google Workspace account with a single user can save money with a Annual Plan, after all, having only one employee is still considered stable!

On the other hand, the Flexible Plan allows for month-to-month adjustments corresponding with the number of users within your Google Workspace account. This can also be a money saver if your user needs fluctuate throughout the year, if you need to downsize, or if you need to cancel before one year.

To be clear, no matter which Google Workspace account type you choose (Annual or Flexible) you will still be billed monthly for convenience. Annual Plan members who choose to cancel their account prior to fulfilling their one year commitment will be billed for the remaining time.
