Programme

On 18 February 2026, we held a workshop dedicated to exploring exclamatives with complementizers and the role of epistemic modal adverbs/particles in exclamatory constructions. The workshop brought together researchers interested in exclamative modality, clause typing, and the interface between discourse markers and syntactic structure.

The sessions focused on:

• How exclamative modality is expressed through particles, epistemic adverbs (certainly, maybe), and discourse markers.

• The role of complementizers in exclamative sentences: clause type, insubordination, illocutionary force, or other values.

The event took place at Micaela Portilla Research Center (Ikergunea) on the university campus in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
