Accommodation

We highly recommend looking for accommodation in one of the two main areas:
(1) Downtown Kyoto (Kawaramachi Area);
(2) Kyoto Station Area.
Both areas offer a wide selection of hotels.

In short, you should choose the first area if you want easy access to the workshop and prefer downtown for good restaurants, sightseeing, shopping, etc. You should choose the second area if you prefer the easiest arrival and departure from the airport (Kansai International Airport).

(1) Downtown Kyoto (Kawaramachi Area)

Access from the airport
You first need to take the Haruka Express train or the Kansai Airport bus to Kyoto Station. From there, you must transfer to the subway, a local bus, or a taxi to reach your hotel. Alternatively, you can use NearMe (a shared taxi service) to go directly from the airport to your hotel.

Access to the university
It takes about 15–20 minutes by local bus, or a quick, inexpensive taxi ride.

(2) Kyoto Station Area

Access from the airport
You can arrive at Kyoto Station by the Haruka Express train, the Kansai Airport bus, or NearMe (a shared taxi service).

Access to the university
It takes about 30–60 minutes by local bus or taxi, depending on traffic.

Please note that standard business hotels in Japan tend to have relatively compact rooms. If you prefer a higher level of comfort, we recommend considering hotels equivalent to those listed above.
