Workhorse Soccer Academy was established in 2020 by former professional soccer player Joe Warren. Joe is a Health and Physical Education Teacher at the high school level in the Mounds View School District. He holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a master's degree in K-12 education from the University of St. Thomas.
Joe was an outstanding athlete at the University of St. Thomas, earning 11 letters in four different sports. He was a four-time soccer letter winner earning All-MIAC honors his last three seasons. He also helped his team win a MIAC title and gain an NCAA bid in 1996. He finished his college career with 22 shutouts. In track and field, he was a three time All-MIAC, conference champion javelin thrower, a starting forward on the Tommie varsity basketball team, and as a punter/kicker for the football team he established a school punting record his senior year with a 78-yard punt in his first game. He was inducted into the St. Thomas Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
Joe turned professional in 1998 when he signed with Minnesota Thunder. He subsequently played for Minnesota until he retired, after helping his side win the North American Soccer League national championship in 2011.
Since 1998, Warren has been coaching soccer in various capacities throughout the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He has coached at Richfield and Edina High schools, as well as St. Olaf College, Hamline University, and the University of St. Thomas as assistant/goalkeeper coach. In the fall of 2018, Joe was named head coach of the Mounds View High school boys' varsity soccer team.
Joe has four beautiful children with his amazing wife Christina.
