Have you ever been called something that stuck within you?
Maybe someone called you "not good enough"... "failure"... "weak"
And even if it was just words... it felt like it became your identity.
Names are powerful.
Because names don't just describe you... They begin to define you.
ILLUSTRATION
Imagine a bottle of water
If I take this bottle and put a label on it that says "Poison"
Even if what's inside is still clean water... no one will drink it
Why?
Because the label changed how people see it.
Some of us are like that.
God created you clean, valuable, and full of purpose...
but life placed labels on you.
In the Bible, whenever God wanted to change someone's life...
He often started by changing their name.
When Abram became Abraham...
He went from "exalted father" to "father of many nations" -
even before he had a child.
When Simon became Peter...
He was still unstable - but Jesus called out the "rock" inside him.
God didn't name them based on who they were...
He named them based on who they were becoming.
ILLUSTRATION
It's like a coach who see potential in a player...
Everyone else sees a benchwarmer...
but the coach says "That's my starter"
Why? Because the coach is not speaking from the present...
He's speaking from vision.
And that's what discipleship is...
It's not about learning lessons...
It's about stepping into a new identity.
You may have come in here with names like:
Addicted, gambler, lost, insecure, jealous, broken, hurt, etc...
But God is saying - that's not your name anymore.
Today, you are being given a new name.
A name that reflects heaven's perspective...
A name that carries purpose...
A name that speaks identity.
You are not who your past says you are...
You are who God says you are.
ILLUSTRATION
Imaging standing in front of a mirror your whole life...
but the mirror is cracked.
So, every time you look at yourself... you see a distorted image.
But one day, someone replaces that mirror...
and for the first time... you see clearly.
That's what God Word does.
It shows you who you really are.
So, when you received this name today...
don't just hear it -
step into it.
Walk in it.
Becomes it.
Because the name God gives you...
is the life He's calling you to live.
