Follow these steps to install XAMPP in a Windows operating system. If you are installing XAMPP in OS X or Linux and need additional guidance, visit the XAMPP forums.
1. Open your web browser and go to https://apachefriends.org/.
2. Click XAMPP for Windows to download.
3. Open the .exe file and follow the instructions provided by the installation wizard.
Note:
Ignore any User Account Control (UAC) warning that advises not to install to C:\Program Files (x86) directory. You will be installing to C:\XAMPP. Click OK to continue the installation process.
4. The Welcome to XAMPP Setup Wizard will appear once the file has been downloaded. Click Next.
5. Select all available components and click Next.
Tip:
Install all of the components. You might not use everything, but you avoid disabling something that may be critical for your application.
6. Install XAMPP in the C:\XAMPP directory, which is the default entry. Click Next.
7. You will see an offer to learn more about Bitnami, which is not necessary at this stage. Uncheck this option and click Next.
Note:
If you see any Windows Security Alerts throughout this process, check Private networks and click Allow Access to continue.
8. XAMPP will now install the files into C:\XAMPP. This may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your connection. When installation is complete, uncheck "Do you want to start the control panel now?", then click Finish to close the installation window.
