Improving the visibility of Women in Optics and Photonics in India

- A Technical and Professional Development workshop for connecting women in the field

The field of Optics and Photonics is a booming section of the economy and a major research area of interest in India. While the number of excellently trained female students in this field continues to grow, the women leaders in academia, as well as industry, are woefully underrepresented. Supported by SPIE, ATOS instruments, Laser Spectra Sciences, and Raman Research Institute, this two day workshop will combine talks from established women in the field along with leadership and career development activities as well as provide a forum for face-to-face interactions and networking between leaders in the field and women students, postdoctoral fellows and early career professionals. This workshop “Women in Optics and Photonics in India (WOPI)” aims to connect excellent female professionals in the early stages of their careers with established experts in optics and photonics to build a growing community of women pioneers in India and jointly create an environment to develop strategies for personal support and professional success.

There is no registration fee for the conference. Accommodation and food will be provided but participants will have to take care of their travel. We intend to publish conference proceedings through SPIE. This will be digitally available for the attendees. Content that has previously not been archived/published or recorded will be accepted for proceedings (in poster or manuscript form although manuscript is preferred). We encourage the submission of abstracts for poster presentation as well. While we can have poster presentations on prior published work and/or early stages of research, only unpublished results will be eligible for the proceedings after novelty check and peer review. Interested candidates can apply using the below link.
