Proximity-based planning towards "Active Ageing in Place".
Change in composition of population admist the ageing phenomenon indicates the further social, economic and political changes. Shifts in consumption pattern justifies a consequential relationship between built environment with physical and mental well-being of the elderly. Elder community possess great desire to “age in place” that preserves their independence and social connection among the community. Ageing in place implies need for concentration of daily acquisitions within a limited spatial area. This geographic nearness - proximity studied itself as a solution for active ageing design model. The characteristics of ageing and supportive built environment for active ageing in place is uncovered through this study to outline the interrelation between physical environment and individual’s performance, to eventually establishes scheme of referral design strategies that embrace the elders with enriched environmental qualities that serve their desire for “Active Ageing in Place”.
