We want to connect new adopters to our student K9 Coaches from the College of Wooster to help with behavioral and related issues of dogs adopted from the Wayne County Dog Shelter Adoption Center or Wayne County Humane Society. Ultimately, we hope that this partnership can lead to a better relationship between dog and adopter and fewer dogs returned to the shelter.
"[The K9 Coach] was AMAZING! She is so passionate about this work, and it showed! It was very helpful for me to reflect on [my dog's] progress each week because often it felt like I wasn't making any! Talking with [the K9 Coach] helped me see how far we had come! It helped me appreciate [my dog] for the dog he is, and the gifts he brings to our family. He's has a hard life prior to us and this experience helped me realize, even with his challenges, he's a great dog for our family. Thank you! "
- A client who had jumping and barking concerns with their dog
“[The K9 Coach] was so kind and polite, she showed a genuine concern for my dog's well-being and made suggestions that were easy to understand and didn't seem like "impossible" solutions. Her follow up contacts were made with appropriate timing and consistency. I wish this program well as it seems like a wonderful opportunity for students and pet owners!”
- A client who had concerns about their dogs anxiety reaction to loud noises
“[The K9 Coach] worked around my busy schedule, and I really appreciate the hard work and time commitment spent helping us out.”

The K9 Coach class provides additional support to adopters for dog behavioral issues which helps to keep dogs in their forever homes and reduces the need to return or rehome dogs for behavioral reasons that can be mitigated.
