Students in grades 4 to 8 will hit the hills on four nights at Centre Vorlage, starting January. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to ski or snowboard and have fun with their classmates – all at a great price! Each night includes round-trip bus transportation from the school and approximately three hours of free ski time. Equipment rental is available at a reasonable cost.
The 2025 program will run on the following dates (*note: Jan. 24 is a PD Day):
Friday January 10
Friday January 17
*Thursday January 23
Friday January 31
The cost for four evenings:
Basic Ski Club cost: $ 333.00
Equipment rental (no helmet): $65.31
Helmet rental: $23.45
The basic Ski Club cost includes:
Round-trip bus transportation
1 hour lesson (mandatory)
Lift ticket
Small fee to support subsidy grants and club equipment for future years
The equipment rental includes skis/snowboard, boots, and poles (for skiers) and, optionally, a helmet (at a small additional cost).
Whether renting or not, helmets are mandatory equipment. It is strongly recommended that children bring their own helmets.
You will be notified by e-mail if an outing is cancelled.
A trip will be cancelled if the ski hill is closed or there is expected to be any extreme weather.
Ski and snowboard equipment is not to be brought to school via school buses.
Students may drop-off and store their ski equipment at the school starting at 8:00 am in the Boys Change Room. Do not use the horseshoe for dropping off equipment in the morning. Woodroffe Avenue Public School is not responsible for any ski equipment stored at the school.
Should skiing be cancelled, children cannot board regular school buses with their equipment. Parents will be responsible for picking up the equipment at the school.
Before leaving for Vorlage, children should leave their school backpacks/instruments at school in the changing room. There is limited space on the bus and they will not need them for the evening. Students will only be allowed to access the changing room upon return, so don't leave anything in the classrooms if they will be needed for the weekend.
Please be on time to pick-up your child(ren) around 7:30 pm.
Please DO NOT use the bus lane at pick-up as this is where the buses will arrive and where the students will unload their equipment.
The United Church and staff parking lots are available for use at this time in the evening.

Will your child be getting a ride to/from Vorlage or will your child be absent on a particular night ?
Please ensure the coordinators are made aware of this by sending an email to woodroffeski@gmail.com or telling a coordinator in-person.
Does your child normally go to an aftercare program or EDP?
Please remember to inform your care provider that your child will be taking part in ski club.
Please do not send valuables to the ski hill as their security cannot be guaranteed.
To enhance the safety of our students, all students and volunteers are asked to wear distinctive ski bibs purchased especially for the Woodroffe Ski and Snowboard Club. Here's a great picture of Woodroffe students wearing their distinctive ski bibs.
Although ski or snowboard equipment theft is rare, it does happen. It is recommended that students who bring their own equipment keep their ski or snowboard equipment secured with a lock while not in use. These locks can be purchased online or at most sporting goods stores.
We recommend that students bring a dinner, but a range of typical cafeteria food is available for purchase in the lodge, including a healthy lunch box option.
Please ensure that your child has clothing that will support changes in weather. Make sure they have layers of clothing. We strongly recommend the following:
helmet (mandatory!)
winter jacket
warm socks
gloves/mittens
ski pants
goggles
neck tube (no long scarves) or balaclava
Please practice having your children put on their ski boots themselves at home. We have adults who will help them buckle up their boots, but the children should be able to get their boots on without assistance.
Students are expected to demonstrate good behaviour and to follow the Centre Vorlage Code of Conduct. Participants are expected to show respect to everyone: volunteers, bus drivers, lift operators, ski instructors, and each other. They are also expected to ski or snowboard with at least one buddy of a similar ability during free time and be back in the lodge by 6:30 pm and on the bus, ready to leave by 7:00 pm.
Failure to abide by these rules may result in the student’s ski club privileges being revoked, parents required to pick up the student from the ski centre and no refund being issued.
All refunds will be handled by The Woodroffe-Vorlage Ski and Snowboard Club but will only be made in the event of a club cancellation. Exceptions may be possible for a withdrawal prior to the club start date, and if there is a student on the waitlist.
The club coordinators, Woodroffe Avenue Public School, Centre Vorlage or Ottawa-Carleton District School Board are not responsible for payments or refunds in any way.
Since the program is held outside the province of Ontario, there are some special considerations to bear in mind. OHIP does not cover all medical costs incurred outside of Ontario and uncertainties may arise with respect to recognition of Ontario health insurance coverage for certain medical treatments and/or hospitalization. Medical expenses are the responsibility of the parent/guardian. As a result, the permission form you sign acknowledges your liability to pay for services not covered by OHIP or that may be required in advance of medical treatment being provided.
Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans. As a parent/guardian, you become responsible for these expenses.
Student accident insurance is available for purchase through various companies. A popular site is http://www.insuremykids.com. For more information please visit the OCDSB website regarding insurance recommendations for students; OCDSB Student Accident Insurance
