Our November DJ of the Month is William Musial, class of '28!
His show is "A Walk in the Woods," playing Tuesdays at 6pm.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
This is my first year as a DJ for WOO 91, but I plan on continuing to share my music and stories as long as I can!
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
Being able to share my interests across the air is an awesome opportunity. I love the idea that anyone anywhere in the country could tune in to our little station to hear my music and trivia!
Why did you name your show "A Walk in the Woods"?
I drew the name from a movie of the same title, starring Robert Redford! I watched it this summer and when planning my show, I thought that the themes of the movie (and the book it is based on) ran parallel to the mood I wanted for my program.
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year/are planning for this year?
I recently did a program highlighting some spooky stories from National Parks, in honor of Halloween. I really enjoyed the more informal aspect of that show, it felt like I was just telling stories with my friends as we listened to some good music!
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
Lord Huron still takes the top spot for me, they were the first concert I ever attended and I’m still a huge fan! They’ve recently started teasing a new album and I’m super excited for that!
Any song/album recommendations?
I would have to recommend the “I and Love and You” album by the Avett Brothers; I heard their music a lot growing up and I think it definitely influenced the music I listen to today!
What's your favorite national park?
My favorite park I’ve been to has to be Glacier National Park in Montana. The landscapes are absolutely beautiful and there are some tremendous hikes and activities to do as well!
Anything else you want to say?
Just get outside! The natural world has so much to offer, for people of all ages and all levels of experience. Go on a hike, go camping, just take a walk through your local park! It is so important to respect and preserve the natural spaces that we have left in this world. In the words of the great Teddy Roosevelt- “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People.”
Our October DJs of the Month are Julian Deremer and Joey Mendez, both class of '27!
Their show is "Attic Tracks," playing Thursdays at 10am.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
This is our second year as DJs.
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
Julian: My favorite part is subjecting other people to my music taste.
Joey: My favorite part of being a DJ is the community and being subjected to Julian's music taste.
Why did you name your show "Attic Tracks"?
We picked "Attic Tracks" because it goes with the variety of things we play (we couldn't think of a better name).
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year/are planning for this year?
Julian: My favorite theme we have planned is our Halloween special--one of our shows falls exactly on Oct. 31st!
Joey: My favorite theme we have coming up is the "girlmetal" theme on November 14th, it's my favorite genre and has some of my favorite artists.
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
Julian: I've been listening to a lot of HANABIE. and the Crane Wives lately.
Joey: I absolutely love Leanna Firestone and Scene Queen.
Any song/album recommendations?
The Ruin album by The Amazing Devil and the Clancy album by Twenty One Pilots are our personal recommendations.
Anything else you want to say?
Thank you so much for featuring us and having us on air, we cannot wait to continue to play our music!!
Our April DJ of the Month is Josie Fleischel, class of '26!
Her show is "Josiepalooza," playing Sundays at 10am.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
This my second year DJ-ing for Woo91!
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
My favorite part would have to be having an actual platform to talk about my favorite songs or being able to do fun themed shows with my friends.
Why did you name your show "Josiepalooza"?
I named my show Josiepalooza because I am from Chicago where the music festival Lollapalooza takes place and my name is Josie, so I kind of just mashed the two together and hoped it would sound good.
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year?
My favorite theme I have done this year would my “Dad radio” episode. I picked a bunch of songs that held some sort of significance with my dad and I’s relationship, and it was super fun picking songs I had associated with specific memories. My listeners were super engaged with the episode, and I had lots of fun doing it.
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
At the moment, I have been listening to lots of Chappell Roan and Alvvays. Both have (in my opinion) the catchiest songs and always can get me out of a bad mood. I am seeing both live in the next six months and absolutely cannot wait.
Any song/album recommendations?
Funeral by Arcade Fire is my favorite album of all time- I will never stop recommend this one. The Lion and the Cobra by Sinéad O’Connor is another must-listen, along with After Laughter by Paramore.
Our February DJs of the Month are Natalie Tanner '24, Conor Pyle '25, and Alex Linderman '24!
Their show is "Big Stink in the Little Booth," playing Fridays at 12pm.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
Big Stink in the Little Booth has been on air for 3 semesters. Alex and Conor were two of the founding members. Natalie joined this past fall as an scribe and as an ASL interpreter for our live audience. This combination went very poorly so she has recently been promoted to a full time host.
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
Our favorite part of being DJ’s is interviewing our “guests” and showcasing their Big Stink personas.
Why did you name your show "Big Stink in the Little Booth"?
Founding members Alex and Memphis decided that while in the booth we have both big stinks, as in stinky butts, and big thinks, as in we have some thoughts.
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year?
We are most proud of this semesters conspiracy theory deep dive show, where we interviewed Travis Kelce, Moth man, and a few unnamed gang stalkers.
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
Richard Cheese
Any song/album recommendations?
“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, by Richard Cheese.
Anything else you want to say?
Please advertise that we are looking for a scribe. Natalie’s promotion has left us with a vacancy.
Our December DJ of the Month is Miriam Harley, class of '24!
Her show is "Mondays with Marigold," playing Mondays at 7pm.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
I have been a DJ at WOO91 for three years now, beginning my sophomore year.
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
Personally, my favorite part of being a DJ is interacting with people, especially my family, as they listen to my songs.
Why did you name your show "Mondays with Marigold"?
My show name comes from an inside joke with my mom in which she remembers me getting so upset in preschool because a kid kept calling me marigold, and I threw such a fit. She says it's one of her favorite memories of me and since she's one of my most consistent listeners, I named it for her.
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year?
Keeping with the trend of my family, my favorite theme this year had to be the holiday songs my family plays for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
I don't have a specific favorite artist but anything by the Highwaymen is a jam.
Any song/album recommendations?
My favorite album right now has to be either The Trinity Session by the Cowboy Junkies or The Road Goes On Forever by the Highwaymen.
Anything else you want to say?
I would love to just give a shout out to my Otherwise Aunts, my Grandpas, and my family in general :)
Our November DJ of the Month is Heather Cook, class of '25!
Her show is "Vibe Vault Radio," playing Mondays at 9pm.
How many years have you been a DJ for WOO91?
This is my second semester DJing for WOO91, although I was a guest on a friend's show the year prior. WOO91 was actually one of the factors that led to me choosing Wooster.
What is your favorite part of being a DJ?
I love being able to share my music taste with others. It's like having the aux in a friend's car for an hour, and it's so exciting to get texts from people listening with their reactions!
Why did you name your show "Vibe Vault Radio"?
Honestly, I was really struggling to come up with a show name, so I brainstormed with some friends and googled names for radio shows. I was instantly drawn to Vibe Vault and thought it sounded pretty interesting and encompassed my show a lot because although I play a lot of different genres and artists, they're always a vibe and there's something for everyone in the mix.
What is your favorite show theme that you have done so far this year?
I loved my Halloween special show just because I really love Halloween and will use any chance I can get to listen to spooky music. The Tim Burton stop motion animation films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride are some of my favorite movies and I will take any opportunity I can to get others to listen to their soundtracks.
Who is your favorite artist at the moment?
Taylor Swift and Panic! At The Disco will probably always be my ultimate favorite artists, but at the moment, I've been listening to a lot of Dove Cameron and Renee Rapp.
Any song/album recommendations?
I feel that everyone should listen to Z Berg's Get Z to a Nunnery album. It came out in 2020 and truly feels like an album that came out of the isolation, but lyrically is extremely poetic and musically is gothic-romantic. Overall, it's a beautiful album especially for fall and winter that I think everyone should give a listen.
