Mutual Youth Hostel @ Kampung Sungai Melayu
A transition from existing parasitic to mutualistic relationship.
Excessive carbon emission is one of the major factors that contribute to the rise of global surface temperature. This affects the livelihood of the fishing village due to the depletion of mangrove forests, which gives impact on fishing activities of the village. Hence, this study focuses on designing a Mutualism inspired carbon neutrality youth hostel that involves daylighting (Eco-stay) and carbon sink (Edu-tourism) strategies.
This design demonstrates the possibility of mutualism relationship, where users and the natural environment can co-exist without harming each other, with an addition where both parties benefit each other with the architecture of youth hostel. It paves the way for future developments on ecological architecture and how mutualism architecture provides positive feedback to the natural environment.
