Applying for a marriage license

• Apply for a license at any town or city clerk's office. The process takes approximately 30 minutes. 

• You can use the license in any New Hampshire town or city (but not in another state or country). 

• Both individuals need to be present to sign and date the marriage license. 

• There is a non-refundable fee for the license, payable to the town or city. 

• Once secured, your license is valid for 90 days.

Marriage license requirements

• Bring documentation that confirms your identity and age. 

• Acceptable documents include a passport or driver's license. 

• You will need to bring a certified copy of your birth certificate. 

• You can get certified copies of vital records through the NH Secretary of State's website or your local government office. 

If you've been previously married

• Bring a certified document that proves the legal termination of your previous marriage. 

• Acceptable documents include: divorce decree, annulment papers, civil union dissolution, or 

death certificate. 

To get a copy of your marriage license

• Certified copies are available for a fee at any town or city clerk's office within 10 days of the marriage date.
