“Empowering Women for Sustainable Resource Management”
Women In Natural Resource Governance (WoNARG) is a community based Organization. The organization is dedicated to empowering women by ensuring they have equitable access to and control over natural resources. Through our mission, we strive to address gender disparities and promote environmental sustainability, fostering a future where women play a pivotal role in resource management and decision-making processes. Our initiatives focus on education, advocacy, and capacity-building to achieve lasting change and foster inclusive, sustainable development. We are Currently operating in Ntungamo South, Western Uganda, with possibility of rolling out to other parts of the country.
To create a future where women have equal access to and control over natural resources
WoNARG: Empowering women in natural resource governance to foster sustainable practices, gender equality, and community resilience through inclusive decision-making and impactful leadership.
i) To promote gender balance in decision making bodies, ensuring equal representation and opportunities for women in natural resource governance.
ii) To provide training and skill development programs to enhance the capabilities of women in areas related to natural resource management, policy analysis and leadership
iii) To foster active participation of women in local communities, encouraging their involvement in discussions that decisions regarding natural resource utilization conservation and sustainable practices.
iv) To advocate for policies that promote gender sensitive approaches to natural resource governance, addressing the unique challenges faced by women and promoting their rights with in the sector.
v) To work towards integrating women’s perspectives in sustainable resource management, considering the social and ecological dimensions and promoting practices that benefit both the environment and local communities.
vi) To facilitate collaboration among women in natural resource governance and other organizations, creating networks that enable the exchange of knowledge, experience and support for collective empowerment.
vii) To conduct research on the impact of natural resource management and use data to inform policies and strategies that enhance their participation and well-being.
viii) To support women in gaining access to financial resources and opportunities, ensuring economic empowerment within the context natural resource governance.
ix) To promote cultural sensitivity and awareness to address traditional norms and practices that may hinder women’s involvement in decision making processes related to natural resources.
x) Mobilize and sensitize the youths and local communities on how to conserve the environment through use of environmentally friendly energy saving techniques.
xi) To initiate and facilitate constructive dialogue over environment and natural resource management and involving women in Uganda.
xii) To advocate for the sustainable and efficient utilization and management of the natural resources including, tin, wolfram, gold, oil & gas among others for the benefit of women and all citizens while taking due consideration for sustainable development goals.
xiii) To advocate for comprehensive and sustainable energy transition by increasing the share of renewable energy sources, promoting energy efficiency minimising environmental impact.
xiv) To carryout consultancy more especially on issues/ matters regarding the natural resources and sustainable development in general.
xv) To improve the health status of vulnerable local communities and women in particular in regard to HIV prevention and treatment.
xvi) To stimulate increased public support for community-based development programs.
xvii) To identify potential funding agencies for community-based programs/projects, and work towards the financial sustainability of community-based initiatives.
xviii) To provide information and best practices that will enable local people and youths in particular to access good markets for their products/service
xix) To champion women’s land rights through strategic advocacy, policy engagements, and community empowerment initiatives aiming to eliminate gender based discrimination in land ownership, enhance legal frameworks for women’s land rights, and foster economic empowerment and social equity for women in rural and urban arears.
xx) To lobby and solicit for funds from government, donors and other institutions to finance development projects initiated by the women and local people.
xxi) To monitor supervise all projects undertaken by the members and provide support advice and evaluate the performance.
xxii) To mobilize women, and other interest groups and engage them in sports and drama activities for entertainment, recreation and income generation by the members.
xxiii) To work with all levels of government to advocate for community -based interventions to relieve poverty, ignorance and disease.
xxiv) To buy, own, hold, lease, mortgage, sell and convey such real and personal property as may be necessary or desirable in the carrying out of work on behalf of the Organization.
xxv) For the benefit of the Organization, initiate income-generating projects and undertake activities that act as inspirational developmental models to our society;
xxvi) To collaborate, co-operate and enter into agreements with other associations with similar objectives to facilitate the attainment of the Organization’s objectives;
xxvii) Open up bank accounts to control Organization’s financial resources.
xxviii) To do any and all such other things, as are conducive and necessary to attain any or all of the above as may be decided upon by the Board of Directors and the General Assembly from time to time.

WoNARG will cover areas of mining, land ownership rights, health, poverty eradication, and improving living conditions of women living in rural communities, research, education and advocacy to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable resource management.
To start with, WoNARG activities will be carried out in Ntungamo district Western Uganda however with the prospects of extending its operations in the whole of Uganda in the near future.
