Welcome to Women’s Health Education Redefined! We are a group of fellows from Moving Tradition’s Kol Koleinu Feminist Teen Fellowship. Kol Koleinu brings together Jewish feminists from all around the country to explore different topics concerning gender equality. The goal of this fellowship is to deepen our knowledge in order to create change in our communities.
Women’s Health Education Redefined is our social change project for Kol Koleinu, and through this project, we seek to reach teens all around the country and educate them about women’s healthcare. As teens, we feel that it is imperative to be activists in our community. The pandemic has brought to light all of the inequalities in our society concerning healthcare. We want this to be a platform where people have all of their questions answered about healthcare.
We believe that no real, lasting change can be made without youth participation. Oftentimes, adults ridicule teenagers for voicing their opinions and trying to enact change. However, we think it is extremely important for youth to persevere and continue practicing their activism, so they can be well-equipped when it is time for the adults to pass on the torch. The youth are our future - our future leaders, policymakers, parents, teachers, doctors, and contributors to society. If youth do not learn and practice using their voices for the greater good, who will do it when the youth become adults? Since we cannot enact change by voting, we have to be creative and use the power of our voices in other ways.
We chose to dedicate our project to women's healthcare because there is both a medical side and a policy side to it. In regards to the medical side, we are interested in speaking with medical professionals in order to learn about how people can get access to healthcare. In regards to the policy side, we are interested in the legislation associated with reproductive health. Whether it is the landmark Roe v. Wade case or the revocation of the period product tax in various states, we are interested in how political officials address reproductive health at the federal and state level.
Our goal with this project is to open up the conversation surrounding women's health. We hope that this can be a safe space where people can learn. We are always open to suggestions, so we encourage you to reach out to us if you have an idea or if you want to write for us!
