What made you passionate about women's health?
Women's health has always seemed like a topic that is not discussed enough or normalized in everyday conversation. The stigmatization regarding our menstrual cycles and the lack of understanding we have about female anatomy and bodily processes only exemplify that. I know too many women who have had their concerns about their health dismissed because doctors do not have the resources or understanding to quickly diagnose women's health issues. I am passionate about women's health because we deserve to have a strong understanding of our bodies, and have a community around us to support better health.

As a former soccer player, I have experienced the impact of an ACL tear—a devastating knee injury leaving an athlete out for 8 to 12 months, affecting their ability to compete and their physical and mental well-being. Despite the alarmingly high statistic that women’s soccer players are 4-6x more likely to tear their ACL’s than their male counterparts, little efforts have been made to implement injury prevention training unique to women’s biomechanics in soccer programs to mitigate this truth. Overall, I’m determined to advocate for evidence-based interventions protecting the well-being of women’s athletes to sustain long-term involvement in sports.

A topic that interests me the most concerning women’s health is endometriosis. Endometriosis is a painful condition that primarily affects women where tissue similar to the endometrial lining grows outside the uterus. There remains a very large gap in the knowledge concerning how to diagnose and treat the condition despite it affecting about 10% of females worldwide.

I love learning about fertility, menopause, and the psychosocial aspects of women’s health. Because women’s health has been traditionally underfunded, I am particularly passionate about research in these fields to ultimately improve clinical outcome of women around the world and reduce social stigma surrounding these topics.

What made you passionate about women's health?
My passion for women’s health began during a donation drive in an underserved community in the Philippines, where I witnessed firsthand the deep health inequities and educational gaps that women face. That experience opened my eyes to the vital importance of health literacy — not just access to medical care, but also the ability to understand and advocate for one’s health. I realized that these disparities are often rooted in broader socioeconomic factors, and it sparked my commitment to raising awareness and promoting equitable women’s health education within my community and beyond.

What topic interests you most concerning women's health?
I'm particularly interested in South Asian women's health because I believe our health experiences are both unique and often overlooked. For example, South Asian women have a higher prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to other groups, which comes with a wide range of symptoms, like excessive hair growth and weight gain. I'm especially interested in exploring the genetic markers linked to PCOS to better understand its causes and how it affects South Asian women specifically.

What topics interest you most concerning women's health?
I am particularly interested in chronic female health conditions such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as well as the lack of research taht surrounds them. Despite their prevalence, there are still many unknowns that exist in the field of women's health, and I am especially passionate about understanding why these research gaps exist and how this impacts diagnosis and treatment.
