This activities are the guidelines that you must use to finally create your radio show. To know what are your teacher expectations see the evaluation section.
Visit this blog, watch the videos, read the post and make comments. To be able to comment you must log in previously with your account.
Then add this blog to your feedly to be able to follow new stuff easily.
Your group will be formed by the students with the same number. Your number for this activiy will be the remainder of dividing your list number by 7 plus 1 (i.e. student with a list number of 45 will be in group 4). This is going to be the base group.
You have to write (not copy) collaboratively a comment (200 words) about the woman with your group number (remainder + 1) in this list. You can find more information about them using other sources like wikipedia or this blog.
To write collaboratively you will use this wiki. You have to create your own page called "name of the woman" and include the names of the students who form the group.
Students with list numbers less than 16 will form pairs with another student whose list number is his/her own plus 15.
Choose one women in your immediate environment doing some mathematics and find out what is her job about (regarding maths). If you can't find any visit this site, this or that. Write a very brief biographic outline (100 words) in the classroom wiki. A page has been created for that purpose.
Select three important mathematicians. One must be alive. The other two should be living in historic periods separeated by at leas 500 years. Read about them and write five questions you would like them to answer. One of the questions must be related to the historic period when they live.
Record your answer in an mp3 audio podcast and edit the recording inluding 5 seconds of music at the beginning and the end of the podcast and 3 seconds between each of the three characters.
The name of the podcast file must be mysurname_intial_wm5.mp3 (i.e. john doe file would be doe_j_wm5.mp3) Upload the files to instagram using the hastag #1617womenmathematicians5.
Review and assess the files from the two mates cosest to you in the number list of the classroom (i.e. student with a number list of 7 has to assess students 6 and 8 files). Use this form. Once finished closed the form and continue with task six.
Back to the base group and create a script for the radio show in which you are going to interview a woman mathematician. First choose the character you like most among those you worked with in task five. The questions you made can now be used in this task.
Here you can find an script template as an example. Follow the instructions you'll find in the template to know how to do it and what information must be included.
The script has to be created collaboratively. You must create your own page in this wiki; the name of page will be "Interview + Name of the woman".
Now it's show time. Record your interview including some music background. Use Audacity to edit your recording and take sompe pictures or make a short video (30 s) of the procces.
The name of the podcast file must be mygroupnumber_one surname_wm7.mp3 (i.e. group 3 in which John Doe is would be 3_doe_wm7.mp3) Upload the files to instagram using the hastag #1617womenmathematicians7.
Congratulations, you have finished the webquest. I hope you have enjoyed the process and that you thought about the role of women in science fields in the past and in the present. Maybe you want to check if something can be improved: take a look into the evaluation section.
