Women Filmmakers’ Contribution to Queer World Cinema

Proposals are invited for an edited collection that aims to explore the contributions of women filmmakers to queer world cinema. The collection seeks to showcase the diversity and richness of queer perspectives and experiences that women filmmakers bring to the world of film, examining the ways in which they have challenged dominant cultural norms and created new ways of representing and exploring gender, sexuality, and desire in their films portraying queer subjects.
Possible topics for chapters include, but are not limited to:
Women filmmakers' representations of queer identities and experiences
The impact of women filmmakers on the development of queer film movements
The challenges faced by women filmmakers in the predominantly male-dominated queer film industry
Women filmmakers' use of aesthetics and form to challenge dominant norms
The role of women filmmakers in creating a more inclusive and diverse queer film industry
The intersection of women filmmakers' perspectives with race, class, and ability
The representation of LGBTQIA+ relationships and families in the films made by women
The impact of globalization and cultural exchange on the work of women filmmakers in queer world cinema
Women filmmakers' use of humor and satire to challenge heteronormative ideologies
The intersection of women filmmakers' queer perspectives with disability, both in front of and behind the camera
Women filmmakers' experimentation with genre and storytelling in queer world cinema
The role of technology and new media in the work of women filmmakers and the creation of queer world cinema
Political activism and resistance in the films of women filmmakers working in queer world cinema
The representation of queer sexuality and desire in the films of women filmmakers from different cultural and geographical contexts.

Notification of acceptance: May 1st, 2023
Completed chapters due by July 15th, 2023
Chapter length: 5000 to 6000 words (footnotes and bibliographical references included)
Chapters returned to authors: by August 10, 2023
Deadline for final revised chapters: October 1, 2023
Expected publication: 2024
Please note that these and future deadlines are strict due to negotiations with the Publisher.
Two publishers have shown interest in the project, and the final publication platform will be determined in the near future.
