Women Founders Roundtable

at Guildhall Winchester

Come and have your say in making entrepreneurship support more inclusive and equitable

Back in March 2019, HM Treasury and Alison Rose published the ‘Rose Review’.

The goal of the Rose Review was to tap the huge unrealised economic potential of women entrepreneurs by making the UK one of the best countries in the world for women to start and grow a new business.

Their priority was to fully understand the barriers which hold UK women back from starting or scaling businesses. By analysing the barriers at each stage, they identified three key strategies to help more women succeed as entrepreneurs:

1. Increase funding directed towards female entrepreneurs.

2. Provide greater family care support for female entrepreneurs.

3. Make entrepreneurship more accessible for women and increase support locally, through relatable and accessible mentors and networks.

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2022, the University of Winchester and the University of Southampton are excited to facilitate two roundtable discussions to discuss these strategies, as well as the barriers faced by women founders, and initiatives universities can take to deliver coordinated tangible improvements.

In the first roundtable, student champions, stakeholders, and members of the audience, from multiple higher education institutions, will come together to debate the barriers and propose initiatives we can take to overcome them at university. This shall be followed by a networking event where individuals will discuss the issues and initiatives highlighted by the first roundtable.

In the afternoon, a second private roundtable shall be held by university stakeholders, policymakers and ecosystem developers who will be tasked with forming practical initiatives that can be implemented within our institutions to deliver positive change.

The goal of this event is to give students the opportunity to have their say in how enterprise & entrepreneurship services can shape their offering and support to help women succeed as entrepreneurs
