The contestants were the most beautiful women in the world - they came from the cities, the country, and the places that most people could not even pronounce. The Bachelor, who seemed like the ultimate catch, made every girl wait for an entire year before the competition in order to, as he says, "become their most beautiful self."
Are we talking about their most beautiful, loving, inner self? Of course not. This is the Bachelor.
The women went to a special camp where they had personal trainers, plastic surgeons, and cosmetologists at their disposal 24/7. They lived on a strict diet of lettuce, carrots and wine. During their time of waiting and physical preparation for the competition, our Bachelor enjoyed a life of luxury. He was born into the most wealthy family in the United States, and he had more influence than the president. Not only was winning his heart an emotional journey, but a life-changing, status-revolving one.
Once the season started, a quiet, alluring girl named Esther immediately became the crowd favorite. All of America fell in love with her - not only was she stunning, but she seemed to be sincerely humble, sweet, and genuine. She stayed out of the drama and kept her attention on the Bachelor. As the season progressed it was increasingly obvious that the Bachelor preferred her above all of the other girls too.
When it came to hometown visits, our Bachelor met Esther's father figure, Morty. Shockingly, and much to the producers' delight, when the Bachelor visited Esther and Morty's hometown he was recognized for his wealth and status, and a few street thugs tried to mug him. Morty jumped in front of the Bachelor and fought the thugs off, shuttling the Bachelor into safety. After the adrenaline wore off, the Bachelor loved showing off his black eye as a battle scar and immediately entrusted himself to Morty. The Bachelor already knew that he was in love with Esther, and this adrenaline rush made her even more exciting. The competition was won.
After the proposal and honeymoon, Esther was over the moon. She only had one rule to follow - she couldn't speak with her new husband about his work. This didn't bother our sweet heroine until horrible news came to her - she quite liked staying out of the political drama.
However, Esther found out that the company her new husband owned was about to tear down the entire area where her family and loved ones lived, whom the Bachelor met during the hometown visits. Her whole childhood community would be homeless, and they were settled in the United States illegally. They had no means to find a new home; they would fall into the hands of the deportation office. She considered tying herself with a sign to a tree or fencepost in protest, but Esther quickly realized that there was nothing she could personally do about the impending destruction. She needed the ex-Bachelor.
Esther knew what approaching her husband could mean to her. She was pretty and she was sweet, but he wouldn't hesitate to make her disappear for sticking her nose into his business. Morty called Esther for a heart-to-heart conversation, and he gave her a righteous challenge and reminder: God will save her people no matter what, but will she act to be his way to do it? Or will she let her purpose slip by? Perhaps this is the moment she is created for.
After much praying and thinking, Esther threw a huge party for her husband. She celebrated him and drank with him. He loved it, and she did the same thing the next day. This man was IN LOVE. After the margaritas had really settled with him once again, he leaned over with the desire to show his power and affection.
"Ask me for anything, and it's yours," he promised Esther.
"I don't know, what I want would be a lot... Do you really think that you can do anything?" she responded.
"Try me," he smirked.
"Call the president and save my people. Give them access to a home here - legally. They live here, they work here, and the United States is their home. Help them stay. You'll be my hero," she challenged, looking him straight in the eyes.
"You know about that?" He recoiled, stunned. The alcohol was warming his stomach, though, and he saw his opportunity to show off and save his damsel-in-distress. "I will make some calls," he promised.
Less than 24 hours later, Esther's family and loved ones had access to citizenship. With her husband's deep pockets, Esther helped them find a lovely new city to live in where they rented penthouse apartments and walked to work.
Esther saved her people, and she, the Bachelor, and Morty lived in luxury and peace for the rest of their days.
Author's note: This story was inspired by Esther's story from the Bible. She was chosen when hundreds of virgins were presented to the King. Esther was one of the most beautiful women in the world, and she was a great woman and follower of God. She was a favorite among everyone, and the king chose her to be his queen after a year of waiting while the virgins were cleansed and prepared to see the king. However, she was Jewish, and she kept that a secret from the Persian king. Then, when an enemy of the Jews demanded to have them killed throughout the region, Esther put her life at risk to approach the king, defy his official, and ask for her people to be saved. Her uncle Mordecai (who is Morty in our modern rendition) who had adopted her as an orphan, saved the king's life and encouraged Esther to be brave and save her people. She went up to the king and pled their case. Esther succeeded in saving her people, and her triumph is remembered every year at the Jewish holiday of Purim.
I decided to make the story a modern twist because the Bachelor competition immediately popped into my mind when I was reading about the virgins' preparation and exposition before the king. I tried to keep the majority of the storyline and power differences the same, just instead of being in Esther's days (which are considered to be around 465 BC).
