The Department carries out research on the linguistic, philological and literary aspects of communication based on consolidated research in national and international linguistic and literary traditions, both diachronically and synchronically, but is also open to innovative and interdisciplinary methods to explore new fields, such as interculturality, gender studies, post-colonial studies, translation, media studies and corpus-based studies and online teaching.

The Department combines research and teaching to deliver courses in 15 foreign languages (including 13 languages of the European Union) and their respective literatures and cultures.

DiSLL is located at Beato Pellegrino complex, with main entrance at 13, Via Vendramini, and 2nd entrance at 28, Via Beato Pellegrino. To get here from Venice Marco Polo (VCE) or Treviso (TSF) airports, take an airport bus or shuttle to Padua station, then walk or take a local bus. The total travel time is about 1 to 1.5 hours.
