Physician mental health and physician suicide are often stigmatized, but they are a very real part of our lives. The department of anesthesia @ KU had an internal physician wellness group. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out.
The HOPE (Helping Our People Endure) program is open to anyone who is having any signs/symptoms or concerns about second victim syndrome. They can contact HOPE@kumc.edu directly. If a colleague is worried about someone, they can also contact the HOPE team and the person will receive a friendly and generic message to the person letting them know the resource is available should they want to talk to anyone.
A team member will reply within two business days (Monday-Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm, excluding holidays). Please provide as much of the following information as possible in order for us to match with you a peer supporter:
