On August 1st and 6th, FTC Wolverine recently collaborated with Intra Spirit, a group that shares our commitment to spreading STEM education to youth in our community. Together, we organized a 2-day workshop where we introduced children to the fundamentals of coding in Java, fostering their interest in technology and programming. In addition to the coding sessions, we also took the opportunity to promote FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), explaining its importance and encouraging the kids to explore robotics as a path to innovation and teamwork. This collaboration was a meaningful step in our mission to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
On August 30th and 31st, our team initiated an Introduction to FIRST webinar. We reached out to 50 different families, giving them an overview of FIRST. These families were provided with a comprehensive overview of the program, highlighting its goals, benefits, and unique features. Our presentation went over many key points and held a Q&A session towards the end. We showed examples of our struggles and our previous year robots. This even lead us to spread awareness of FIRST and inspire newcomers to this STEM competition.
September-October 2024: 5 Week Coding Camp
Our team held a 5 week long online coding camp to introduce the basics of java to a younger audience. We started on the 25th of September and went until October 30th. Over the course of the class, we taught the basics of java programming and understanding what java is. When approaching the last week, we assigned a final project for the students to show their understanding of java. The students learned the introduction to java programming and we inspired then to explore the depths of computer programming.
December 2024: STEM Fair
In collaboration with another FTC team, SciRavens, we held a day long Robotics Fair for everyone to learn about robotics. We held this event in the library to open it up to all families to come and learn. We put our robots on display to show our progress and what FTC is like. Our partnership with the other team was beneficial for everyone since we inspired over 70 families and explained FIRST and robotics.
