Piercing Aftercare Instructions
What to Expect:
· Swelling, redness, bruising, minor bleeding, and soreness are normal for new piercings.
· Itching is also common during the healing process.
· Healing time can vary among people; it can also vary depending on where the piercing is located.
· It is normal for clear or white fluid to ooze from the wound; this will form a crust around the jewelry that will help the wound heal.
· It’s typical for piercings to have a weird smell to them, so it is important to keep them clean.
How to Clean Your Piercing:
1. Wash your hands before you touch your new piercing for any reason.
2. Use a sterile saline solution (wound wash or piercing aftercare spray) like Simply Saline to clean the area. Use clean Q-tips to get into tight spots.
3. When showering, use a small amount of antibacterial soap to wash the area gently. Rinse well with warm water.
4. Pat dry with a clean paper towel
5. For oral piercings, use non-alcoholic mouthwash 2-3 times a day, especially after eating.
What to Avoid
· Never touch your piercing with unwashed hands.
· Don’t try to change your jewelry before it’s completely healed.
· Don’t use alcohol or peroxide to clean your piercing.
· Avoid using Neosporin or Vaseline.
· Try not to clean too often so that you don’t irritate the skin or slow the healing process.
· Avoid putting makeup, lotions, or other beauty and skin care products on or around the piercing.
· For oral piercings, avoid smoking and drinking alcohol while it is still healing.
· Don’t wear tight fitting clothing that might irritate or rub against the piercing.
· Avoid going into chlorinated pools while healing.
