The Wolf Pack Moms were created to address the funding gap in educational and extracurricular needs for students in Steele Creek, Charlotte, NC. The Wolf Pack Moms fundraise, host events and provide grants intended to support academic success, access to learning materials, extracurricular activities, or other student-focused needs.
Yes, Winget Park Elementary PTO
PTO (parent-teacher organization) is an independent group that operate under their own bylaws. Winget Park Elementary PTO was a 501c3 and operated as a nonprofit organization.
Short answer. The Principal at Winget Park Elementary wanted a PTA and falsely accused the PTO of accessing student records. Instead of dissolving the organization, we renamed our nonprofit to Wolf Pack Moms and updated the Bylaws to support all schools in Steele Creek.
Long answer. The Principal at Winget Park Elementary wanted a PTA. She held a community meeting, Spring 2024, where she did not receive the support she wanted to move forward with a PTA. The PTO met with the Area Assistant Superintendent and the Principal to mediate the situation, and moved forward with a plan for the new school year.
Over the summer the Principal sent out a ParentSquare message falsely accusing the PTO of accessing student records. The PTO had access to Parent contact information, just as any parent group had access via ParentSquare in the 2023-2024 school year. The PTOs ParentSquare access was taken away in the Spring of 2024 and the PTO had to contact Parents via email for remaining year events. The emails were collected via previous orders and general communication with the PTO. The emails were NOT taken from ParentSquare as we were falsely accused.
Members of the PTO met with the new Area Assistant Superintendent, individually per his request. The individual meetings were not productive and the request for a retraction and apology from the Principal for her false accusations were dismissed as a misunderstanding.
The PTO reached out to the PTA to discuss resources, but received a response that they did not need anything. (see emails below)
The PTO was told to clean out the PTO closet on school property, which did occur. The PTO removed all PTO items from the closet, but left the line of communication open to the PTA. To date, the PTA has not requested a meeting to discuss resource sharing.
We were directed to clean out the closet. We removed all items purchased by the PTO.
We considered dissolving the PTO, but wanted to continue supporting the Steele Creek community. The Winget Park PTA did not want our resources, so we now have an opportunity to create fundraising events for the entire community and provide grants.
