HVAC Mini-Split Heat Pump and Backup Heaters
Overview There are two completely separate systems for heating. The primary system is the Heat Pump Mini-Split. This system provides heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. The backup heating system is only needed during extremely cold days and nights.
Mini-Split Heat Pump The mini-split has 4 major components. The first is the heat pump that is mounted on the deck. It looks like an oversized box fan. The other three components are mounted high on the walls in the Kitchen/Living room area, Master Bedroom, and Basement Living Room. These units are controlled by three remote controls that should be kept near their respective units. If needed, any one of the remotes can control the other wall-mounted units.
The remote controls provide easy control to maintain a high level of comfort inside. For the most part, operating these units in economy mode is sufficient to keep everything comfortable. This primary system should be used first for all heating and cooling needs.
Backup Heaters If temperatures outside drop below -5°F then the primary system is no longer effective at heating and the backup heating system will be required to heat the home. The back-up heating system also acts as a fail-safe in case of any failure in the primary system, or if one of the owners neglects to set the heat properly before leaving. Each of the backup heaters works independently of each other, however, the thermostats in each room are programmed to work togther.
There are 7 backup heaters in total and 7 corresponding digital smart thermostats that control them. They are located in the main living room, main floor bathroom (in-celing), Kitchen area, Master Bedroom, Basement Living Room, Basement Bathroom (in-ceiling), and basement bunkroom. By default, these heaters will come on if the temperature inside drops below 55°F to prevent water pipes from freezing. If it is too cold for the heat pump to heat efficiently, then the thermostats for these heaters can be used to create a comfortable temperature in the home. Just be sure to set the thermostats back to 55°F before leaving.
Backup heaters may be used, if needed, to maintain comfort in the two bathrooms and in the bunkroom. Just remember to set them back to 55°F when done.
Samsung TVs
Satellite TV/DirecTV is available on the TV in the Main Living Room only. To watch the Satellite TV, make sure the samsung TV has the proper source selected for Satellite TV, then use the DirecTV remote to browse and change channels.
Bluray/DVD Player Use the Samsung remote to source button to select the source for the BluRay player. Then use the Bluray player remote to control the playback of the DVD.
Streaming Services The Samsung Smart TV systems support most streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and hundreds of others. If the desired streaming service is not installed, then feel free to install it. No Adult Entertainment streaming services are allowed and should not be installed. To use the streaming services, following these steps:
Ensure that if a previous visitor has forgotten to log out of their streaming service that you log out before using it.
Login to the desired service using your personal username and password.
If the TV gets disconnected from the internet, reconnect it using the settings on the router in the kitchen cabinet above the sink.
When you are finished, or at the end of your stay, remember to logout of your streaming account.
Remote Controls: The remote controls for the two main 75" Samsung TVs recharge via solar panels on the backs of the remotes. They collect ambient light to recharge. When not in use, be sure to store them on top of the TV cabinet with the buttons face down so they can recharge.
Refrigerator / Ice Maker
Refrigerator Doors Be careful when opening the refrigerator doors not to bang them too hard on the walls. We have installed pads on the walls to protect the doors, but we still need to be careful.
Refrigerator Temperature Settings The refrigerator should be set between 36-37 degrees F. Please do not change this setting.
Ice Maker You may want to empty the ice maker at the beginning of your stay so the refrigerator can make fresh ice for you. When ice sits in the freezer for too long, it starts to take on the smells and flavors of whatever else has been in the freezer.
