Why do we want to repair this building now? We want it to be a community center. For years now, the Glee Merritt Kelley Community Library has shared a space with the children’s library at Wolcott Elementary School. However, times have certainly changed, and security concerns are telling us that it may be time to separate the Wolcott’s town library. The Wolcott Historical Society also needs a home that can begin to share our town’s wonderful artifacts with the community. The rail trail will also be coming through town, and a gazebo has already been built to create a stopping place. Restored, the old schoolhouse can also provide space for local artists to display their works, workshops and wellness classes to be held, and small gatherings to take place. Outdoors, a community garden can be constructed, and this will become a focus-point of our community once again.
