Apprenticeships:

Apprenticeships combine real work with study – they offer the opportunity to gain work experience and achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Things to consider if you are considering going into an apprenticeship:

• Would you like to develop your skills in a work environment?

• Would you like to gain a qualification that is related to the job you are doing?

• Do you know the job you would like to do? Have you had any work experience which might help you with making decisions about job areas?

• An apprenticeship is a real job and so you will earn a salary – how much you get paid will depend on your age, the employer and the area of work.

• The learning could be on the job training, in a college or at a training centre.

• Some placements start in August or September, however, you can search and apply for apprenticeships all year round.

Apprenticeship Levels:

• Intermediate Level 2 apprenticeships are equivalent to GCSEs – some employers will not require specific qualifications, but Maths and English GCSEs may be needed for some positions

• Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeships are equivalent to A Levels – Having a Level 2 qualification (equivalent to 4-5 GCSEs including Maths and English) is usually a requirement for a Level 3 apprenticeship

• Higher apprenticeships (Level 4) and Degree Level apprenticeships (Level 6) are also available for those with a Level 3 qualification
