Graphs are an important tool in A-Level Maths, and knowing what a graph looks like is exceptionally useful. If we know some standard graphs and how to transform them then we will soon be able to draw any graph.
This week we have put some of the Desmos investigations onto our website. They are best viewed on a computer, but should work on a mobile as well (best viewed portrait) please choose your device below, but don't forget to come back here for the challenges and this week's test.
To start with I would like you to: perform each transformation to the original f(x), sketch its graph and write its equation in terms of f.
Does it matter what order we do the transformations in? Choose a pair of transformations and apply them in turn to the graph y=f(x). Sketch the final resultant graph. Now reverse the order, do you get the same graph?
Does the order matter for for every pair? Some pairs? Or none of the pairs?
(Hint: There are 6 pairs to check)
