Frequently Asked Questions

What Do I Wear?

Clothing! Whatever you are comfortable with that takes into account the sensibilities of other members of the group.

What Do I Bring?

A smile and an open mind! Chairs are available. If you wish to meditate on props such as Zafu, Zambuton, Meditation Bench, Yoga Blocks, you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment. On rare occasion there are heating issues so dressing warmly may be appropriate.

Do you accept Donations?

Dana (Donation) is a longstanding tradition in many spiritual and religious paths. Give what you are able to give while cultivating a mind of generosity and detachment. Dana is meant to help cultivate a spirit of generosity within each individual, and may come in the form of money, labor, kind words, or even a smile. Monetary donations are divided between our host Church and charities we support. We aim for financial transparency and have a financial policy and ledger available for all to view at the greeting desk.

Any General Etiquette I should be aware of?

Please come on time, we start promptly at 7:00 PM. If you are late, please come in very quietly and do not allow the door to make noise as it closes. Please be mindful of others as you take off your jacket any with any bodily noises, as beginner meditators are much more easily disturbed by sound distractions. PLEASE shut off your cellphones.

Do I need to be Buddhist/Atheist/Hindu/Spiritual to attend?

No. Our community is made up of many people from many different backgrounds, we welcome diversity and the different wisdom, life experiences, and traditions people bring and share. Many walk the spiritual path for different reasons and some are here just to learn how to reduce stress! Our discussions encompass different religions and spiritual traditions, and debate is not only tolerated but welcome! We have several members with strong backgrounds in science who enjoy discussing theory as well. We have a general rule of no divisive politics allowed in discussion group.
