Join us to explore the rich world of particle physics
WMTPP 2025 (Workshop on Modern Trends in Particle Physics) is a one-day workshop dedicated to exploring the latest developments and frontiers in Particle Physics. The workshop is organized by the Department of Physics, Presidency University, Kolkata, India.
The Workshop will consist of 3 invited lectures by eminent researchers in particle Physics followed by a panel discussion focused on the various opportunities available to students wishing to pursue research in particle physics. The objective of the Workshop is to ensure that the young students get initiated into current research in Particle Physics and we are hopeful that some of them may develop a dialogue with the visiting researchers.
Ph.D. students and Post-doctoral fellows are also invited to present their original research work.
Presidency University, established in 1817 and formerly known as Hindu College and Presidency College, stands as one of the oldest institutions in India and Asia. Elevated to university status in 2010, its rich history encompasses a legacy of academic excellence and innovation.
The institution's journey began on January 20th, 1817, with an inaugural class of 20 scholars under the leadership of Raja Rammohan Ray.
In the late 19th century, the Physics department emerged as a hub of pioneering research. Professor Jagadis Chandra Bose conducted groundbreaking experiments in generating and receiving microwaves, laying the groundwork for technologies widely used today.
In the latter half of the 20th century, the department continued to shine with Amal Kumar Raychaudhuri's seminal work on General Relativity, drawing global attention. This era saw the emergence of outstanding physicists like Ashoke Sen, Sumit Das , Sankar Das Sarma, Jayanta K. Bhattacharjee, Chandan Dasgupta and Amitava Raychaudhuri further cementing the department's reputation as a breeding ground for top-tier talent.
