Rationale
Our Health Care and Social Assistance pathway offers students a meaningful opportunity to build the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to support the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. As one of the fastest-growing and most impactful fields in the global economy, health and human services provide diverse career options—from nursing, physical therapy, and emergency medicine to mental health support, public health, counseling, and social work.
This pathway emphasizes both scientific learning and human connection. Students gain foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, mental and behavioral health, and patient care. Through hands-on learning experiences, real-world simulations, and opportunities to collaborate with healthcare professionals, students develop critical skills including communication, empathy, ethical decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Participating in the Health Care and Social Assistance pathway allows students to earn industry-recognized credentials, explore internships, and prepare for further study in health science, nursing, allied health fields, or social services programs. Students who complete this pathway are well-positioned to pursue college degrees, technical training, and career opportunities in high-demand areas that offer stable employment and clear pathways for advancement.
Most importantly, this program empowers students to make a positive difference in their communities. Whether responding to medical challenges, supporting mental health and wellness, advocating for vulnerable populations, or contributing to public health initiatives, graduates of this pathway play a vital role in strengthening the health and resilience of society.
Suggested Flow of Course Work
Students in this pathway will complete at least two technical courses and two advanced courses over the course of their high school experience. Within those classes, they will earn key industry credentials (OSHA 10, ServSafe, CPR/First Aid, etc.) They also complete a 100-hour internship in this field.
