Learn about Deaf Culture, history, and of course, learn some sign!
Currently in the West Linn Wilsonville School District, Riverside High School is the only school that offers an official American Sign Language (ASL) class. The goal of ASL Club at West Linn is not to be like a typical class, but to acknowledge ASL as a language--one that is just as valuable as any other language taught if not even more so. Because ASL doesn't rely on written words, in some ways, it can be more accesible to students who may find it challenging to learn written languages. Not only can ASL make learning a language more accesible to students, it is needed for individuals with hearing impairments or who are non-verbal.
