School Activities

Weekly Family Activities throughout Utah

Each week we send out a "Weekly Update" via Parent Square with events, contests, and other fun info to support your at-home-learning experience! You can also view these via our Facebook Page @wasatchlearningacademy on FB.

PreK-8 Field Trips

Our schoolwide field trips this year will be in fall and spring. We offer both grade level field trips and school-wide, grades PreK-8, field trips. We offer the school-wide events three times a year and grade-level events twice a year to meet the needs and preferences of our families and students.

All field trips will be offered by sign-up. Families may meet us at the venue or ride our school bus from our school campus in Heber City.

CEDAR CITY

ONGOING Calendar of Events | SUU – FREE Visit your friends at SUMA for a special storytime and hands-on creative activity in performing and visual arts. Each Create Playdate is about 45-minutes long and is geared toward preschool children (ages 3 to 5) and their parents or guardians. Every book read at Create Playdate is followed by engaging and hands-on arts activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family.


EDEN

MAR 11 Join us for a ski and ride day at Nordic Valley Ski Resort! We will spend the morning together as a group, learning from each other and warming up. After lunch, we'll split into groups based on ability level and spend the rest of the day riding all over the mountain. Register here: 4h.zsuite.org


HILL AIR FORCE BASE

ONGOING Virtual Tours | Hill Aerospace Museum (aerospaceutah.org) – Hill Aerospace Museum is now offering Virtual Tours of a number of different aircraft. These Virtual Tours give you an up close and personal tour of both the exterior and the interior of the aircraft. Take a moment and take a look for yourself. JORDANELLE STATE PARK

MAR 12 BARE BONES What kinds of animal bones can we expect to find around the Rock Cliff campus? What are some clues that can help us identify animal bones? What do bones tell us about how an animal has adapted to its’ environment? Join us for a hands-on exploration about everything animal bones! Suitable for all ages. No registration required. Free with $10 State Park Entry fee.

MAR 19 ICE CANDLES Join us at the Rock Cliff Nature Center for a family-friendly day of winter crafts and hot cocoa. Suitable for all ages. No registration required. Free with $10 State Park Entry fee.

MAR 26 DEER DETECTIVES Join us at the Rock Cliff Nature Center of Jordanelle State Park for an afternoon of learning about our Mule Deer friends.

After a brief talk in the Nature Center, we will embark on a guided snowshoe hike and search for clues left behind by our winter residents. Suitable for all ages. Free with $10 State Park entrance fee. Snowshoes are available to rent ($5/pair)

HUTCHINGS MUSEUM Growing Beyond Earth | NASA Citizen Science Project |(johnhutchingsmuseum.org) The Project: Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) is a citizen science project designed to advance NASA research on growing plants in space. Hutchings Museum Institute’s GBE Research Team will conduct a second 49-day trial testing varieties of herbs in a specially-designed growing chamber – much like the plant growing system aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This project is a hands-on opportunity for students to learn research protocols, evaluate results, share conclusions, and work as a team – all while contributing to NASA science to determine which plants humans will grow on the International Space Station, the Moon, and even Mars! Who can participate: Middle and high school aged students (11 – 18 years old) are invited to join the research team.

MAR 10 Join a Swaner naturalist at the EcoCenter to learn about a neat nature topic each week. Each Swaner Shorts program will include a short presentation about the topic of the week and hands-on opportunities to learn about it. This program is great for all ages and no registration is required.

MAR 11 Join us for a nature walk on the Preserve with one of Swaner's naturalists! We will explore wetland science, natural plant and animal species, and the history of the Swaner Preserve. When there is snow on the Preserve, nature walks take place on snowshoes. Snowshoes can be rented from the EcoCenter if needed - $2.50 for members, $5 for non-members.
