The Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble at Western Kentucky University was created to provide a dedicated space for low brass musicians to explore chamber music and develop their ensemble skills. Over the years, the group has performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical transcriptions to contemporary works written specifically for tuba and euphonium. The ensemble continues to uphold WKU’s tradition of musical excellence by performing at campus concerts, community events, and regional conferences, showcasing the depth and versatility of the low brass family.
Chris Schmidt is an Eastman Performing Artist and instructor of tuba and euphonium at Western Kentucky University and Indiana University Southeast. His ensembles have performed at major events such as the International Euphonium-Tuba Festival and the KMEA Conference. He holds degrees from Morehead State University and the University of Louisville, where he studied with renowned teachers including Dr. Earle Louder, Dr. Stacy Baker, and Mr. John Jones. Schmidt operates CP Schmidt Music, LLC in Louisville, where he teaches over sixty private students, designs marching band drills, and arranges music for various programs. He also performs with Chamber Winds Louisville, the Derby City Brass Band, and the Indiana University Southeast Band and Orchestra.
David is a graduate student pursuing a MM in Wind Band Conducting. He is from Wayne County High School in Monticello, KY. Over the summer, he was the low brass instructor for Allen County-Scottsville Marching Band.
Reagan is a junior pursuing a BA in Music while also earning a BS in Psychological Sciences, a BA in Criminology, and a BA in Sociology, and is a graduate of Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
Ashleigh is a junior here at WKU studying Music Education and is a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School from Winchester, KY. Over the summer, Ashleigh was the low brass instructor for the LaRue County and George Rogers Clark High School Marching Bands.
Cooper is a graduate of Daviess County High School and has participated in the 2024 KMEA All-State Concert band and the 2025 KMEA All-State Symphonic Band, also receiving a Distinguished at KMEA State Solos and Ensembles. Cooper has also participated in WGI Winds, where in 2025, they were a class gold Medalist.
Geoffry is a graduate of Carroll County High School and has participated in the 2025 All-State Symphonic Band and Louisville Youth Wind Symphony. Also received the John Philip Sousa Award and earned three distinguished awards at KMEA State Solos and Ensembles.
James is a freshman Music Performance major and is a graduate of Adair County High School from Columbia, Ky. He was a participant in all-district all four years of high school and also received the John Phillip Sousa award.
